Transcript claims to show US worked with Palestinians on UN resolution-Report published in Egypt has Kerry and Rice advising senior Palestinians on strategy at UN and after Trump takes power-By Times of Israel staff December 27, 2016, 10:56 pm

An Egyptian paper published what it claims are the transcripts of meetings between top US and Palestinian officials that, if true, would corroborate Israeli accusations that the Obama administration was behind last week’s UN Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements. At the same time, a report in an Israeli daily Tuesday night pointed to Britain helping draft the resolution and high drama in the hours leading up to the vote, as Jerusalem tried to convince New Zealand to bury the Security Council measure. In a meeting in early December with top Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, US Secretary of State John Kerry told the Palestinians that the US was prepared to cooperate with the Palestinians at the Security council, Israel’s Channel 1 TV said, quoting the Egyptian Al-Youm Al-Sabea newspaper. Also present at the meeting according to the report were US National Security Adviser Susan Rice, and Majed Faraj, director of the Palestinian Authority’s General Intelligence Service.White House national security council spokesman Ned Price on Wednesday told the Times of Israel that no such meeting took place. “The ‘transcript’ is a total fabrication,” he said. While the State Department confirmed meetings that Erekat and a Palestinian delegation had with Kerry and separately with Rice, no tripartite meeting between all of them took place, according to Price.Kerry is quoted as saying that he could present his ideas for a final status solution if the Palestinians pledge they will support the proposed framework. The US officials advised the Palestinians to travel to Riyadh to present the plan to Saudi leaders.Israel fears that Kerry, who is slated to give a speech Wednesday on the subject, will then lay out his comprehensive vision for two-state solution at a Paris peace conference planned for January. Israel has refused to attend. Israel further fears that this Kerry framework could be enshrined in another UN Security Council resolution. The Egyptian report fits with Israeli claims that it had received “ironclad” information from Arab sources that Washington actively helped craft last week’s UN resolution declaring Israeli settlements illegal.“We have ironclad information that emanates from sources in the Arab world and that shows the Obama administration helped craft this resolution and pushed hard for its eventual passage,” said David Keyes, spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Egyptian report did not detail whose transcripts of the meeting it had obtained or how it had obtained them.Responding to a question about the Al-Youm Al-Sabea report, State Department Spokesman Mark Toner denied that the US discussed the language of the resolution with Erekat or in a meeting with officials from New Zealand. The Obama administration has denied it was behind the resolution, saying that it only decided not to veto it after reading the final text.Meanwhile, a report in the daily Haaretz Tuesday cited Western and Israeli officials detailing how Britain, and not the US, worked with the Palestinians to craft the text of the resolution, toning it down to make it palatable enough for Washington to avoid a veto.“The Israeli diplomats say that from information that reached the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, British legal figures and diplomats had been working directly with the Palestinians on the wording of the resolution even before it was distributed by Egypt,” Haaretz said.According to Haaretz, in the hours before the resolution went forward, Netanyahu phoned New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully, and warned him that going ahead with the resolution “will be a declaration of war.”“It will rupture the relations and there will be consequences. We’ll recall our ambassador to Jerusalem,” Netanyahu is reported to have said.Since the resolution passed, Netanyahu has taken a series of measures against the states that supported the resolutions, minimizing ties with some and calling in their envoys for rebuke.According to the Egyptian report, the US diplomats expressed their mistrust of Netanyahu, saying he wanted to destroy the two-state solution and was only interested in maintaining the status quo between Israel and the Palestinians. The transcript showed Kerry and Rice advising the Palestinians not to make any provocative moves when US President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20, calling him dangerous. They warned against such steps as ending security cooperation with Israel, pursuing legal action against Israeli officials in the ICC, or dissolving the Palestinian Authority. They also said Trump’s administration was likely to adopt a policy on the Israel-Palestinian conflict that would be totally different to that of previous administrations going back to 1967.When asked how the Palestinians would react if Trump carried out his promise to move the US embassy to Jerusalem, Erekat reportedly said the Palestine Liberation Organization would rescind its recognition of Israel and ask Arab states to expel their US envoys.Erekat made precisely that threat in a December 19 conference call organized by the Wilson Center policy forum. He said he would immediately resign as the chief Palestinian negotiator, and that “the PLO will revoke its recognition of Israel” as well as all previously signed agreements with Israel. Furthermore, said Erekat, all American embassies in the Arab world would be forced to close — not necessarily because Arab leaderships would want to close them, but because the infuriated public in the Arab world would not “allow” for the embassies to continue to operate. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Australia would have opposed anti-settlement UN resolution, FM indicates-Canberra ‘has consistently not supported one-sided resolutions targeting Israel,’ says Julie Bishop, who in 2014 contested notion that settlements are illegal-By Raphael Ahren December 29, 2016, 2:57 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Australia would likely have voted against United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemned Israeli settlements, the country’s foreign minister indicated Thursday.Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Julie Bishop stressed that Canberra is not currently a member of the Security Council and therefore could not vote on the resolution. However, she added, “in voting at the UN, the Coalition government has consistently not supported one-sided resolutions targeting Israel.”The controversial resolution determined that Israel’s establishment of settlements anywhere outside the pre-1967 lines “has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law.” It did not distinguish between the West Bank and East Jerusalem.Bishop, known to be a staunch supporter of Israel, urged both Israelis and Palestinians to refrain from steps that damage the prospect for peace and to “resume direct negotiations for a two-state solution as soon as possible.”The current leader of Australia’s opposition, Chris Bowen, told the paper that his Labour party has long supported and continues to support a two-state solution and that settlements were “a roadblock to peace.”Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has condemned the Security Council resolution as “distorted and shameful,” is planning to visit Australia in February in what would be the first-ever visit of a sitting Israeli prime minister Down Under.Jerusalem’s relations with Australia’s smaller neighbor, New Zealand, however, are at a low point after Wellington was one of four co-sponsors who brought the controversial text up for a vote at the Security Council. Hours before the vote, Netanyahu reportedly called New Zealand’s foreign minister, Murray McCully, and warned him that going ahead with the resolution “will be a declaration of war.”After Friday’s vote, Netanyahu, who is also foreign minister, summoned Israel’s ambassador in Wellington, Isaac Gerberg, to Jerusalem for consultations. As a consequence of Friday’s resolution, the prime minister banned senior contacts with officials from the 14 countries that supported the text. The US abstained, allowing the resolution to pass and drawing a furious response from Netanyahu.Netanyahu summoned a dozen ambassadors for dressing-downs, canceled foreign aid to Senegal and Angola, disinvited the Ukrainian prime minister, and declined meetings with the leaders of China and Great Britain. He also instructed his ministers to curtail travel to the countries that voted in favor of the resolution, announced a “reassessment of all of our contacts with the UN,” ordered funding cuts to various UN agencies, and vowed that “there’s more to come.”He also canceled the upcoming visit to Israel of Senegal’s foreign minister, which would have marked the first time a top official from the Muslim-majority West African country arrived in Israel since it re-established diplomatic relations with Jerusalem in the mid-1990s.In early 2014, Bishop caused international furor when, in an exclusive interview with The Times of Israel she appeared to contest the view that Israeli settlements anywhere beyond the 1967 lines are illegal under international law. “I would like to see which international law has declared them illegal,” she said, adding that she did not want to “prejudge the fundamental issues,” which should instead be discussed in the peace negotiations. Her comments angered pro-Palestinian activists and politicians, who maintained that the settlements’ illegality was commonly accepted. Critics accused her of either being ignorant of international law or seeking to “reinvent” it, as senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said at the time.

UK officials say they were behind UN settlements vote — report-While Netanyahu points finger at Obama, London says move was part of new strategy by PM May-By Times of Israel staff December 29, 2016, 2:54 pm

While Israeli officials have pointed the finger for last week’s UN Security Council anti-settlements resolution firmly at US President Barack Obama, senior UK officials reportedly said Thursday that the motion — submitted by New Zealand, Senegal, Malaysia, Venezuela — was effectively a British initiative.Israel’s ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have insisted since Friday’s Security Council vote that there’s “absolutely incontestable” proof that the Obama administration pushed the resolution, and that “the United States was actually behind that gang-up,” respectively. However, UK officials have stepped up in recent days to say the resolution was theirs, not the White House’s. The Jewish Chronicle quoted an unnamed senior British political source Thursday saying that by the time the text reached the 15-member body, it was “in effect a British resolution.” A day earlier, The Guardian reported Britain “played a key behind-the-scenes role” in ensuring the resolution passed.Another British source told the Chronicle that the “yes” vote for the resolution was part of UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s new strategy toward Israel, according to which the Jewish state’s friends have to take a stand against settlements to garner favor with the Palestinians.May, the paper reported, deems settlements a major inhibitor to Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations and Resolution 2334 was “the first step in a re-emphasizing of longstanding UK policy against settlements,” a British source told the paper. As part of his furious diplomatic response to the UN resolution, Netanyahu reportedly canceled a meeting with his British counterpart, a move a British official called “disappointing.”Resolution 2334 passed 14-0 with the United States abstaining from the Friday night vote on the measure condemning Israeli settlements over the pre-1967 Green Line. The United Kingdom voted in favor of the resolution, which called Israeli building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem a violation of international law. Netanyahu accused the US of colluding with the Palestinians and helping draft the resolution. The US has vehemently denied Israel’s charges, with Secretary of State John Kerry insisting the US “did not draft or originate” the resolution, introduced by Egypt and later, after Egypt withdrew it, by the four other nations.

Yuval Rotem officially appointed head of diplomatic corps-Career diplomat and ex-envoy to Australia will direct Foreign Ministry after unexpected resignation of Dore Gold earlier this year-By Times of Israel staff December 29, 2016, 4:48 pm

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has officially appointed career diplomat Yuval Rotem as director general of the Foreign Ministry, months after he was named the temporary replacement for outgoing director general Dore Gold following his sudden resignation.Netanyahu made the announcement on Thursday at a farewell ceremony for Gold and the ministry’s outgoing chief of staff Shimon Shapira. In his remarks, the prime minister said the ministry, long seen as sidelined on key issues of Israeli diplomacy and statecraft, played a critical role in carrying out the government’s foreign policy.“I am thankful for the trust put in me personally,” Rotem said in a statement.Rotem, 57, is a 30-year career diplomat who previously served as Israel’s ambassador to Australia, consul general in Los Angeles, and chief of staff at the ministry. He has served as the ministry’s acting director-general since Gold’s surprise resignation three months ago.Gold in October unexpectedly declared he was leaving after only 16 months on the job.Hebrew media reports cited senior Israeli officials saying Gold, a native of Connecticut and longtime confidant of Netanyahu, quit mainly because he was frustrated over having been sidelined on the most critical foreign policy issues.Gold denied those reports, saying at the time and repeatedly since that his reasons for leaving were entirely personal, and that he wholeheartedly supports the foreign policy of Benjamin Netanyahu.Rotem joined the diplomatic corps in 1985 and was first appointed to ambassador’s rank in 2003 by Netanyahu, who was foreign minister at the time. The appointment made him one of the youngest-ever Israeli ambassadors. He served as Israel’s envoy to Australia and New Zealand between 2007 and 2013. During his time in Australia, Rotem had to deal with the fallout from the 2010 assassination in a Dubai hotel room of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh, one of the founders of Hamas’s military wing, in a hit attributed to Mossad agents who allegedly used fake foreign passports, including those of Australian citizens. In another incident that tested diplomatic ties, in 2013 details emerged of the suicide while in custody of Australian-Israeli citizen Ben Zygier three years earlier as he was being held in Israel on serious espionage charges.Zygier, allegedly a Mossad agent who was said to have inadvertently leaked names of other agents in the Middle East resulting in their arrest, imprisonment, or deaths, was being held under a strict media blackout and became known as “Prisoner X.”

Israel opens database with 400,000 declassified documents on Yemenite Children Affair-Authorities hope to finally bring closure to families of missing children allegedly kidnapped from hospitals and given for adoption; families want government to take responsibility-By Times of Israel staff December 28, 2016, 10:10 am

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu inaugurated an online database on Wednesday that gives the public full access to some 400,000 pages of declassified documents that the state hopes will help bring closure to the decades-long controversy known as the “Yemenite Children Affair.”“Today we right a historic wrong,” Netanyahu said at a ceremony launching the database. “For close to 60 years people did not know the fate of their children, in a few minutes any person can access the pages containing all the information that the government of Israel has.”This is “a brave and important act,” said Minister for Regional Cooperation Tzachi Hanegbi, who was tasked by the prime minister with overseeing an investigation into the affair and who gave the go-ahead for the declassification of the documents.Since the 1950s, over 1,000 families — mostly immigrants from Yemen, but also dozens from the Balkans, North Africa and other Middle Eastern countries — have alleged their children were systematically kidnapped from Israeli hospitals and put up for adoption, sometimes abroad. The claims were generally dismissed by authorities.Over the past several decades, the government has appointed three investigative committees to probe the case, with all concluding the majority of children died in the hospital and were simply buried without the families’ being informed or involved. The last panel to probe the affair in 2001 reached similar conclusions, but sealed various testimonies from the probe in the state archive for 70 years. Now they are being released.“The government is now taking action for the first time. [This step] erases the feeling of an opaque and disconnected establishment,” Hanegbi told Army Radio ahead of the release.Families affected by the affair “will have much more information” now about what happened to their loved ones, he said.Even though the allegations have largely been disputed by scholars and seemingly refuted by probes, the case has kept resurfacing, in part because many of the families were not given their children’s bodies nor informed of their burial places, death certificates were riddled with errors, and some of the missing children were sent army draft notices 18 years after their alleged deaths. There have also been cases where adopted children were able to confirm, through paternity tests, they were from Yemenite families who were told they had died. But family members say there has been so much misinformation over the years and current confusion, it is doubtful families will get the closure they crave.Yigal Yossef, a former mayor of the town of Rosh Ha’ayin and a representative of the families, told Army Radio Wednesday that he continues to search for his sister who disappeared as a baby even though his family was given a death certificate. “Two weeks ago I went to the Interior Ministry to check and it turned out my sister is still alive,” he said. But when he went to the address listed with the ministry, the home did not exist. “I don’t know whom to believe” anymore, Yossef said.He wants to also see the government take responsibility. “The government needs to give an answer,” he said. “I expect the government to take responsibility for this crime.”The documents to be released are composed of the investigative committees’ findings, and they will be made available to the public on a special database of the Israel State Archives. Their publication will be marked by a ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office Wednesday morning.MK Nurit Koren (Likud), who chairs the Knesset lobby tasked with researching the Yemenite Children Affair and who had a cousin disappear, praised the decision to release the documents in an interview with Army Radio Wednesday morning, but noted that “this is just the beginning of the path. She also cautioned that despite the release many people would still not find “precise answers.”She also pointed out that the documents being published are from the years 1948 to 1954, although one of the investigate committees found that the affair continued until 1966. Koren called on the government to release the rest of the documents, as “we are obliged to give these families answers.”Both Hanegbi and Koren also called for the establishment of a DNA database in order to pair families with their disappeared children. The documents to be released will only include information on missing children whose families had requested the government investigate the matter. Other families, who were affected but who did not formally ask the government to look into the issue, can ask the State Archives for any relevant information pertaining to them. While some of the information will be censored, as it contains names, adoption records and other personal details, families who want to see the information in full can request to do so from the State Archives, Army Radio reported.

After canceling meetings, Netanyahu still has busy diplomatic schedule-A host of foreign dignitaries are due in Jerusalem next month amid criticism that prime minister is isolating Israel-By Raphael Ahren December 28, 2016, 4:19 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Despite canceling several high-profile meetings in the wake of the UN Security Council anti-settlements resolution passed last week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s diplomatic schedule for the next few weeks is chockablock with encounters with top foreign dignitaries.Netanyahu has steadfastly maintained that Israel’s international standing is better than ever, while his detractors have accused him of leading Israel toward international isolation with his aggressive diplomatic moves. In January, two presidents, one chancellor, two prime ministers and three foreign ministers are planning visits to Israel, according to a list the Foreign Ministry published Wednesday. In addition, heads of parliaments, ministers, deputy ministers, MPs and a US governor are scheduled to make their way to Jerusalem.Even a senior official from a state that voted in favor of Security Council Resolution 2334 is set to visit Israel — Gérard Larcher, the president of France’s Senate. (Larcher is a member of the center-right Republicans party, which is considered more pro-Israel than the ruling Socialists.)-Furthermore, Netanyahu is planning to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on January 17-20, where he is expected to meet with several world leaders, including some with which Israel does not have formal diplomatic relations. Still, he has reportedly canceled a meeting at Davos with British Prime Minister Theresa May over the UK’s support for the resolution. As a consequence of Friday’s resolution, which declares Israeli settlement outside the pre-1967 lines as having “no legal validity” and constituting “a flagrant violation under international law,” the prime minister banned senior contacts with officials from the 14 countries that supported the text. (The US abstained, allowing the resolution to pass).Netanyahu, who is also foreign minister, summoned a dozen ambassadors for dressing-downs, canceled foreign aid to Senegal and Angola, disinvited the Ukrainian prime minister, and declined meetings with the leaders of China and Great Britain. He also instructed his ministers to curtail travel to the countries that voted in favor of the resolution, announced a “reassessment of all of our contacts with the UN,” ordered funding cuts to various UN agencies, and vowed that “there’s more to come.”He also canceled the upcoming visit to Israel of Senegal’s foreign minister, which would have marked the first time a top official from the Muslim-majority West African country arrived in Israel since it re-established diplomatic relations with Jerusalem in the mid-1990s.Besides France’s Larcher, who is scheduled to arrive on Monday, January 2, Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Ernest Bai Koroma, the president of Sierra Leone, and Andrzej Duda, the president of Poland.Furthermore, the prime minister is slated to meet with his counterparts from Serbia, Jamaica, Croatia and Austria in Jerusalem.Canada’s foreign minister, Stephane Dion, is likewise arriving in Israel, as are the foreign ministers of Serbia and Norway.Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is also scheduled to come to Israel next month, as is Nikos Voutsis, the speaker of Greece’s parliament; Sidi Tiémoko Touré, youth minister from Ivory Coast; and Mmusi Maiman, the head of South Africa’s opposition and leader of the country’s Democratic Alliance party.

Iran plans navy upgrade, including building aircraft carrier-Announcement follows Rouhani’s earlier statement that Tehran will build nuclear-powered ships and submarines-By Times of Israel staff December 27, 2016, 12:34 pm

Iran is planning to build an aircraft carrier as part of an upgrade of its maritime warfare capabilities, a senior naval officer said Monday.“Building an aircraft carrier is also among the goals pursued by the navy and we hope to attain this objective,” Deputy Navy Commander for Coordination Admiral Peiman Jafari Tehrani was quoted as saying by Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency.Tehrani also said the Iranian defense ministry and navy are “producing different types of missiles indigenously.”Iranian Navy Commander Habibollah Sayyari first declared in 2014 that Iran was able to construct aircraft carriers as well as high-tech submarines.“As we have managed to produce warships and submarines, we also have the capability to build aircraft carriers and heavy submarines,” Fars quoted Sayyari as saying at the time.Iran often boasts of advances in its military capabilities, although many of these developments cannot be confirmed by sources outside of Iran.Iranian President Hassan Rouhani earlier this month ordered the country’s scientists to start work on nuclear-powered ships, in what was seen as a response to the renewal of sanctions by the United States.Iranian lawmakers had previously raised the prospect of building nuclear-powered ships and submarines back in 2012 at the height of tensions with the international community over the nuclear program.International analysts said the announcement was likely just a bluff, since it would be an extremely costly effort for little strategic gain.

As the eight-day festival of Hanukkah commenced over the weekend, several holiday menorahs in California and Arizona were vandalized in what the local Jewish communities suspect to be hate crimes. On Sunday, the first day of Hanukkah, a Chabad center in the Southern California city of Santa Monica was vandalized, according to local news reports.Feces and rice were smeared on the window of the Living Torah Center on Wilshire Boulevard either late Saturday night or early Sunday, Rabbi Boruch Rabinowitz told CBS Los Angeles.Police are investigating; there are no suspects.A large Hanukkah menorah stands behind the center’s glass-walled street front.“This seems kind of intentional,” the center’s assistant rabbi, Dovid Tenenbaum, told the Los Angeles Times. “With a religious artifact in the window, we have to assume so.”The Living Torah Center posted a message on its website thanking the public for “the outpouring of love and support from people of every background.” It said that “in the spirit of the holiday,” the center would “move forward and continue to spread light and love and not let this incident diminish our resolve to bring goodness to the world.”It was not the first episode of apparent anti-Semitism at the center, the newspaper reported. According to the Times, the center had received a threatening letter about a year ago, and graffiti was found scrawled on the center’s sukkah. The Times quoted Tenenbaum as saying that during services about a month ago, “a man stood up and shouted ‘Heil Hitler,’ positioning his arms as if shooting a rifle. He ran away before anyone could catch him.”Also on Sunday, a large menorah and Holocaust memorial were damaged at a synagogue in Sun City, Arizona. The damage to Temple Beth Shalom was discovered Sunday morning. The local sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, which has not been classified a hate crime, the local media reported. The synagogue had celebrated a bar mitzvah the day before, the NBC affiliate Channel 12 News reported. The copper and metal menorah has been in front of the synagogue for more than 30 years.Tire tracks in the front yard of the synagogue indicated that someone smashed a truck into the menorah; it also appears that someone then tried to pull down the menorah, according to reports. It will cost about $7,000 to fix the menorah, Rabbi Sheldon Moss told the local television station KPHO.A Holocaust memorial on the synagogue’s campus also was damaged.Meanwhile, a 6-foot-high, 100-pound menorah was stolen from a park in San Francisco, but officials say anti-Semitic motives are not likely. The menorah in Washington Square Park was reported stolen Sunday after having been lit the night before, the first night of the Hanukkah, the San Francisco Gate reported. It was installed two weeks ago by the local Chabad.Police believe the menorah was stolen by metal recyclers and not by someone with anti-Semitic intent.6-Foot-Tall Menorah Stolen From San Francisco Park: (JTA) — A six-foot tall, 100 pound menorah was… https://t.co/n3xdiJrRlX | @jdforward pic.twitter.com/qRn2OC2cga— Breaking SF News (@breakingsfnews) December 27, 2016-“We didn’t think somebody could make off with something that big,” Miryum Mochkin, co-director of the North Beach branch of Chabad, told the Gate. She said Chabad considers it a hate crime.“At the end of the day, someone that evil, who would target a religious symbol, is a person of darkness,” Mochkin said, according to the Gate. “We’re a celebration of light. They’re stuck in a dark place.”Chabad, which had been scheduled to hold a public lighting of the menorah on Monday night, called on families to meet in the park at the scheduled time with their own personal menorahs.

White House: No coordination with Erekat, leaked transcript ‘total fabrication’-NSC spokesman denies Egyptian report that Palestinian negotiator held meeting with Kerry, Rice to strategize anti-settlement resolution acceptable to US-By Eric Cortellessa December 28, 2016, 4:15 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

WASHINGTON — The White House on Wednesday denied any coordination with the Palestinians over the formulation of a United Nations Security Council Resolution condemning Israeli settlements, and called recently leaked transcripts of conversations between top US and Palestinian officials, published by an Egyptian newspaper, a “total fabrication.”According to the report in Al-Youm Al-Sabea, an alleged meeting took place earlier this month between Secretary of State John Kerry, national security adviser Susan Rice and chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, during which the three strategized how to push forward a resolution that would be acceptable to the US.While Erekat did lead a Palestinian delegation to Washington this month, no such meeting between all three individuals took place, according to National Security Council spokesman Ned Price.A State Department statement released at the time confirmed that Erekat met separately with Kerry and Rice, but no tripartite meeting between all of them occurred, said Price.“This alleged meeting… never happened,” Price told The Times of Israel on Wednesday morning. “The ‘transcript’ is a total fabrication.”Erekat, for his part, has also denied the contents of the leaked transcripts, telling the Palestinian WAFA News Agency: “The leaked minutes are lies and half-truths.”Since Resolution 2334 was passed Friday, Israel has been fuming, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his aides accusing the US of colluding with Palestinians and other Security Council member-states to pass a measure critical of Israel. The resolution states that the settlement enterprise “has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law” and calls for a complete end to all construction in areas Israel gained after the 1967 Six Day War.The text was approved with 14-0 with the United States abstaining.PMO spokesman David Keyes and Israel’s ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer have each taken to multiple US media organizations recently to say Israel has “ironclad information” that demonstrates the US worked to push the resolution forward. Keyes has said this evidence comes from the Arab diplomatic sources.Israel has said it will present its evidence to President-elect Donald Trump’s team and allow it to decide whether to share the information with the American public.Responding to the recent UN censure, Israel has hauled in envoys from countries that passed the measure for rebuke and has sanctioned several of them, reducing ties and aid programs and canceling meetings.Defending these moves, the Israeli premier said, “Israel is a country with national pride, and we do not turn the other cheek.”“This is a responsible, measured and vigorous response, the natural response of a healthy people that is making it clear to the nations of the world that what was done at the UN is unacceptable to us,” Netanyahu added on Monday.Kerry, meanwhile, is slated to deliver a highly anticipated address Wednesday laying out his “comprehensive vision” for Israeli-Palestinian peace and how future administrations can take the issue forward.Defending the US abstention — and decision to not veto — the resolution Friday, Kerry said in a statement the move would “preserve the possibility of peace.”

Kerry to set out vision on Israeli-Palestinian peace in Wednesday speech-As Jerusalem fumes over UN resolution and US role in it, secretary to deliver highly anticipated address; Washington expresses concerns Israel isolating itself-By Eric Cortellessa December 27, 2016, 11:23 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State John Kerry will deliver a highly anticipated address on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict Wednesday, as Israel continues to rage over the United States allowing a resolution critical of settlement building to pass the United Nations Security Council. At a press briefing Tuesday, State Department spokesman Mark Toner confirmed Kerry’s plans for the speech, though he refused to detail whether the top US diplomat would use the opportunity to announce a new American initiative, which officials in Jerusalem fear he may.Toner said the secretary holds the conviction that “it is his duty in his remaining weeks and days as secretary of state to lay out what he believes is a way towards a two-state solution” and that “it’s always important to keep the process moving forward.”“We haven’t given up on this and we don’t think the Israelis and Palestinians should either,” he added.Officials said Kerry would make the speech to an invited audience, including the Washington diplomatic corps, at the State Department, in which he will provide a “comprehensive vision for how he believes the conflict can be resolved.”Israel fears that Kerry’s principles will be discussed at a Paris summit on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on January 15 and could be enshrined in a further United Nations Security Council resolution. Its prime minister and top diplomats have directly accused the Obama administration of working with the Palestinians to drive through Friday’s Resolution 2334, something the US has denied.Kerry indicated Friday he would soon address the subject of moribund Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts when he issued a statement following the US decision to abstain — and not veto — the Security Council measure, saying it would “preserve the possibility for peace.”UN Resolution 2334 says that the settlement enterprise “has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law” and calls for a complete end to all construction in areas Israel gained after the 1967 Six Day War.The text was approved with 14-0 with the United States abstaining. In recent months, there had been increasing speculation that either Kerry or President Barack Obama might give a speech laying out parameters for reaching a final status agreement between Israelis and Palestinians, detailing how future administrations that are committed to the two-state outcome may be able to take the issue forward. On Friday, Kerry said he would soon “share more detailed thoughts, drawn from the experience of the last several years, on the way ahead.”During his tenure at the State Department, Kerry has spent considerable time trying to forge the coveted peace agreement, most notably though embarking on an ultimately futile nine-month round of negotiations in 2013-4 intended to reach a comprehensive accord.Kerry was originally slated to give his address on Thursday, in the immediate aftermath of the vote, but canceled the speech after Egypt pulled the resolution at the last minute, apparently responding to pressure from Israel and US President-elect Donald Trump. The same resolution was introduced on Friday by New Zealand, Malaysia, Senegal and Venezuela, and passed 14-0 with the US abstaining.Trump said on the campaign trail he would attempt to make peace between the sides, but has also given hints he is not committed to the two-state framework. His pick for US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, told The Times of Israel in November that “a two-state solution is not a priority” for the incoming president.During a Tuesday press briefing, Toner also expressed US concern that Israel’s reaction to the resolution’s passage was inflicting further damage by increasing Israel’s isolation in the international community-“We’re concerned when we see Israel take actions that will isolate it … but its not for us to speak anymore to what Israel decides to do,” he said.“We don’t want this to create a diplomatic firestorm,” he added. “What we want are actions that create a climate that is conducive to return to direct negotiations.”Responding to the recent UN censure, Israel has hauled in envoys from countries that passed the measure for rebuke and has sanctioned several of them, reducing ties and aid programs and canceling meetings.Defending these moves, the Israeli premier said, “Israel is a country with national pride, and we do not turn the other cheek.”“This is a responsible, measured and vigorous response, the natural response of a healthy people that is making it clear to the nations of the world that what was done at the UN is unacceptable to us,” Netanyahu added on Monday. At his weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu also addressed a conversation he had with Kerry on Thursday, in which he said he told him “friends don’t take friends to the Security Council.”Since Friday, Israel has accused the United States of working to initiate the resolution, including by colluding with the Palestinians to strategize over its language — an allegation Washington categorically denies.“The idea this was pre-cooked in advance is not accurate,” Toner said Tuesday.

Netanyhau castigates Kerry’s skewed speech, obsession with settlements; vows to work with Trump to repeal UN resolution-Secretary drew ‘false moral equivalence’ between Jerusalem construction and Palestinian terror, PM charges, and was only ‘paying lip service’ in condemnation of attacks-By Raoul Wootliff December 28, 2016, 10:40 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday slammed a major address by US Secretary of State John Kerry on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, calling the speech “almost as unbalanced as the anti-Israel resolution at the UN last week.”Netanyahu was referring to a Security Council vote condemning Israel’s settlements, in which the US abstained.Branding Kerry’s speech “a big disappointment,” Netanyahu criticized the secretary for “attacking the only democracy in the Middle East,” while numerous other conflicts raged across the region.“Is that all he’s got?” he ridiculed the secretary. “A full hour, and that’s all he has,” Netanyahu said, in brief Hebrew remarks which he then followed with a longer, bitter English critique of the speech and of the conduct of the Obama Administration in its final weeks.“Maybe he doesn’t realize it, but Israel is only place in the Middle East where Christians can celebrate Christmas. All of this doesn’t interest the US secretary of state, unfortunately,” Netanyahu fumed. An earlier comment in Hebrew from the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem said Kerry “obsessively dealt with settlements and barely touched upon the root of the conflict.”In a speech that lasted well over an hour, Kerry described settlements as an important obstacle to achieving an agreement between the sides and charged that Israeli actions in the West Bank were putting the two-state solution, which he said was the sole path to peace, “in serious jeopardy.”Kerry argued that settlement construction in the West Bank was being “strategically placed in locations that make two states impossible” and said the “the status quo is leading toward one state, or perpetual occupation.”He also condemned Palestinian incitement to violence and glorification of terrorists, singling out Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah movement, and slammed attempts to isolate and legitimize Israel in the United Nations and elsewhere. But the prime minister said Kerry drew a “false moral equivalence” between construction in Jerusalem and Palestinian terrorism, and accused him of only “paying lip service” in his condemnation of terrorism. He noted that the controversial UN resolution, while condemning “incitement,” did not even attribute that incitement to the Palestinians. References to suicide bombers and millions of Israelis forced into bomb shelters by rocket attacks should not be “throwaway lines” in an address like this, he said..“Israelis do not need to be lectured about the importance of peace by world leaders,” Netanyahu said. “No one wants peace more than the people of Israel.”Netanyahu said he looks forward to working with the incoming administration of Donald Trump to “repeal” the UN resolution.“I wish I could be comforted” by Kerry’s promise not to seek further UN action, but the US said the same thing before the resolution passed,” the prime minister noted. He speculated that other countries could advance another UN resolution while the US directed from behind the scenes. France might take it up, he suggested. Or Sweden, which he described as no friend of Israel. The prime minister and top diplomats have directly accused the Obama administration of working with the Palestinians to drive through Friday’s Resolution 2334, which the US has repeatedly denied.Reiterating statements made his spokesman earlier this week, the prime minister said there is “absolutely incontestable evidence that the United States organized” and advanced the UN resolution, adding that the transcript leaked to Egyptian media is the “tip of the iceberg.”“Some of it is sensitive; it’s all true,” he said of the information. In his speech, Kerry laid out six principles that he said the United States believes must govern the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, chiefly that peace must provide for secure and recognized borders, based on the 1967 lines, with mutually agreed land swaps and a contiguous state for the Palestinians. But, Kerry said, “a final status agreement can only be achieved” through direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians, and insisted the US would not push for a further resolution at the Security Council.Israel reportedly fears that the principles Kerry articulated will be discussed at a January 15 summit in Paris on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and could be enshrined in a further UN Security Council resolution. Netanyahu has said he will not attend the conference in Paris.

Abbas: I’ll resume talks if Israel halts settlement activity-In wake of Kerry speech, Palestinian leader says PA ready to restart ‘permanent status negotiations… under specified timeframe’-By Times of Israel staff and AFP December 28, 2016, 11:03 pm

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Wednesday he would be willing to resume peace negotiations with Israel should Jerusalem stop settlement construction and implement existing agreements.“The minute the Israeli government agrees to cease all settlement activities… and agrees to implement the signed agreements on the basis of mutual reciprocity, the Palestinian leadership stands ready to resume permanent status negotiations on the basis of international law and relevant international legality resolutions… under a specified timeframe,” he said in a statement.Abbas, his office said, was “fully convinced that a just, comprehensive and lasting peace can be reached in all core issues,” leading to an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. The statement added that the PA leader would “continue to cooperate closely with France, which plans to convene next month an international peace conference, in order to guarantee the launching of a credible peace process.”Meanwhile Abbas’s Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki rejected Kerry’s allusion to Palestinians being prepared to accept Israel as a Jewish state.Maliki said the secretary hadn’t broken any new ground in his speech, and had simply repeated his views and summarized his positions from recent years. However, he noted that Kerry had said that “many…are now prepared to accept [Israel as a Jewish state], provided the need for a Palestinian state is also addressed.” This assertion, Maliki stressed, was “unacceptable.”Abbas’s response to Kerry’s comments was markedly different than that of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who called the speech “skewed” and “obsessive” towards settlements as well as “a big disappointment.”The prime minister said Kerry drew a “false moral equivalence” between construction in Jerusalem and Palestinian terrorism. Kerry, he said, was only “paying lip service” in his condemnation of terrorism, while the UN resolution did not condemn Palestinian incitement, only “incitement” in general.Kerry on Wednesday laid out his “comprehensive vision” for the future of Middle East peacemaking, saying that a two-state solution was the “only way to ensure Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state,” but promising that the US would not seek further UN action on the conflict, days after President Barack Obama infuriated Israel for the decision not to veto a United Nations Security Council resolution condemning Israel’s settlement activity.Kerry described settlements as an obstacle to achieving an agreement between the sides and that Israeli actions in the West Bank were putting the two-state solution, which he said was the sole path to peace, “in serious jeopardy.”With less than a month left as secretary of state, Kerry sought to champion the two-state outcome he worked to achieve throughout the last four years, saying it was the only path forward. Yet his address comes against the backdrop of incoming president Donald Trump, who has signalled that he may not be committed to the two-state framework.Kerry also had harsh words for the Palestinians, condemning their incitement to violence and glorification of terrorists, and he slammed the attempt to isolate and delegitimize Israel in the United Nations and elsewhere.“The murders of innocents are still glorified on Fatah websites,” Kerry said, referring the movement headed by Abbas. “Despite statements by President Abbas, too often they send a different message by failing to condemn specific attacks and by naming public squares, streets and schools after terrorists.”Ahead of the speech, The New York Times quoted a senior State Department official as saying that it would “address some of the misleading critiques” leveled at the Obama administration after Friday’s vote. This was, the Times said, a “clear reference” to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s furious response to the outcome of the vote, in particular the White House’s failure to use its veto.UN Resolution 2334 says that the settlement enterprise “has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law,” and calls for a complete end to all construction in areas Israel gained after the 1967 Six Day War. It also calls on all states “to distinguish, in their relevant dealings, between the territory of the State of Israel and the territories occupied since 1967” — language that Israel fears will lead to a surge in boycott and sanctions efforts, and that an Israeli official warned would provide “a tailwind for terror.”The text was approved 14-0 with the United States abstaining. A no vote by the US would have meant the resolution didn’t pass.Since Friday, Israel has accused the United States of working to initiate the resolution, including by colluding with the Palestinians to strategize over its language — an allegation Washington categorically denies.Eric Cortellessa, Raoul Wootliff and JTA contributed to this report.

Kerry: Israeli gov’t agenda ‘driven by the most extreme elements,’ jeopardizing two-state solution-Castigating settlement activity and defending Security Council abstention, secretary says friends must tell each other hard truths; sets out principles for accord but says he doesn’t aim to impose terms-By Eric Cortellessa and Raoul Wootliff December 28, 2016, 8:40 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

WASHINGTON — US secretary of state John Kerry on Wednesday laid out his “comprehensive vision” for the future of Middle East peacemaking, saying that a two-state solution was the “only way to ensure Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state,” but promising that the US would not seek further UN action on the conflict. He spoke days after President Barack Obama infuriated the Israeli government by failing to veto a United Nations Security Council resolution demanding an end to Israel’s settlement activity, thus enabling it to pass.In a speech that lasted well over an hour, Kerry described settlements as a central obstacle to achieving an agreement between the sides and declared that Israeli actions in the West Bank were putting the two-state solution, which he said was the sole path to peace, “in serious jeopardy.”Kerry argued that settlement construction in the West Bank was being “strategically placed in locations that make two states impossible” and said the “the status quo is leading toward one state, or perpetual occupation.” Settlement expansion, he declared, “has nothing to do with Israel’s security.”Castigating the coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he said it was “the most right-wing in Israel history with an agenda driven by the most extreme elements. The result is that policies of this government, which the prime minister himself just described as more committed to settlements than any in Israel’s history, are leading … towards one state. In fact,” he added, “Israel has increasingly consolidated control over much of the West Bank for its own purposes. With less than a month as secretary of state, Kerry sought to champion the two-state outcome he worked to achieve throughout the last four years, saying it was the only path forward. Incoming president Donald Trump has signaled he may not be committed to the two-state framework.“The two-state solution is the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians,” Kerry said. “It is the only way to ensure Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state living in peace and security with its neighbors.”“It is the only way to ensure a future of freedom and dignity for the Palestinian people and it is an important way of advancing United States interests in the region,” he added of the two-solution, which he said was “now in serious jeopardy.”“The truth is that trends on the ground — violence, terrorism, incitement, settlement expansion and the seemingly endless occupation — are combining to destroy hopes for peace on both sides, and increasingly cementing an irreversible one-state reality that most people do not actually want,” he said.Speaking directly to Israeli criticism of the US abstention, Kerry said: “It is not this resolution that is isolating Israel; it is the pernicious policy of settlement construction that is making peace impossible.”The secretary dwelled at length on Israeli settlement policy in the West Bank, charging leaders of the settlement movement with “purposefully accelerating” trends that will make a two-state solution impossible. Kerry noted that the settler population has grown by 270,000 since the signing of the Oslo Accords in 1993, and by 100,000 since Obama took office in 2009. He also lamented the reversal of trends toward greater Palestinian control initiated with Oslo.-The Israeli prime minister publicly supports a two-state solution, but his current coalition is the most right-wing in Israel’s history, with an agenda driven by the most extreme elements’-“The Israeli prime minister publicly supports a two-state solution, but his current coalition is the most right-wing in Israel’s history, with an agenda driven by the most extreme elements,” Kerry said. “Policies of this government, which the prime minister just described as more committed to settlements than any in Israel’s history, are leading in the opposite direction. They’re leading to one state.”If there is only one state, he warned, “you would have millions of Palestinians permanently living in segregated enclaves in the middle of the West Bank with no real political rights, separate legal education and transportation systems, vast income disparities, under a permanent military occupation that deprives them of the most basic freedoms. Separate and unequal is what you would have, and nobody can explain how that works.”Netanyahu responded almost immediately to the speech, and continued to voice his indignation toward the United States, arguing Kerry’s words were just as problematic as the actions his government took last week.“Like the Security Council resolution that Secretary Kerry advanced in the UN, his speech tonight was skewed against Israel,” the prime minister said. “For over an hour, Kerry obsessively dealt with settlements and barely touched upon the root of the conflict — Palestinian opposition to a Jewish state in any boundaries.”Kerry also had harsh words for the Palestinians, condemning their incitement to violence and glorification of terrorists, and he slammed the attempt to isolate and delegitimize Israel in the United Nations and elsewhere.“The murders of innocents are still glorified on Fatah websites,” Kerry said, referring the movement headed by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. This was, the Times said, a “clear reference” to Netanyahu’s furious response to the outcome of the vote, in particular the White House’s failure to use its veto.In recent months, there had been increasing speculation that either Kerry or Obama could deliver a speech laying out parameters for reaching a final status agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, detailing how future administrations that are committed to the two-state outcome may be able to take the issue forward.Kerry laid out six principles that he said the United States believes must govern the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.Firstly, Kerry said, peace must provide for secure and recognized borders, based on the 1967 lines, with mutually agreed land swaps and a contiguous state for the Palestinians.Other principles included the fulfillment of UN General Assembly Resolution 181, which called for two state for two peoples; a fair and “realistic” solution to the Palestinian refugee problem that did not “affect the fundamental character of Israel”; shared capitals in Jerusalem that ensured free access to holy sites and no redivision of the city; Israeli security guarantees along with an end to the occupation; and a final end to the conflict and all outstanding claims along with the establishment of normalized relations. But, Kerry said, “a final status agreement can only be achieved” through direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians, and insisted the US would not push for a further resolution at the Security Council.Israel fears that the principles Kerry articulated will be discussed at a January 15 summit in Paris on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and could be enshrined in a further UN Security Council resolution. The prime minister and top diplomats have directly accused the Obama administration of working with the Palestinians to drive through Friday’s Resolution 2334, which the US has repeatedly denied. The US did not agree with every word of the resolution, Kerry said, and therefore did not vote in favor. “But this vote, I can’t emphasize enough,” was not about a peace deal, Kerry said. “It was about how we make peace with the Palestinians in the future,” to “preserve the possibility to do so.”UN Resolution 2334 says that the settlement enterprise “has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law” and calls for a complete end to all construction in areas Israel gained after the 1967 Six Day War. A no vote by the US would have meant the resolution didn’t pass.Responding to the recent UN censure, Israel has hauled in for rebuke envoys from countries that passed the measure and has sanctioned several of them, reducing ties and aid programs and canceling meetings.Defending these moves, the Israeli premier said, “Israel is a country with national pride, and we do not turn the other cheek.”“This is a responsible, measured and vigorous response, the natural response of a healthy people that is making it clear to the nations of the world that what was done at the UN is unacceptable to us,” Netanyahu added on Monday. At his weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu also addressed a conversation he had with Kerry on Thursday, in which he said he told him, “Friends don’t take friends to the Security Council.”Since Friday, Israel has accused the United States of working to initiate the resolution, including by colluding with the Palestinians to strategize over its language — an allegation Washington categorically denies.— JTA contributed to this report.

The First Step Towards Building the Third Temple: A Synagogue on the Temple Mount-By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz December 27, 2016 , 10:30 am-breakingisraelnews

“Even them will I bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer; their burnt-offerings and their sacrifices shall be acceptable upon Mine altar; for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” Isaiah 56:7 (The Israel Bible™)-Yaakov Hayman, the head of Yishai, an NGO dedicated to reinstating Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount, is preparing to submit a survey map to the Israeli government to build four synagogues, one in each corner of the Temple Mount compound, a critical turning point steering Israel in the right direction towards prayer at Judaism’s holiest site.Legally, the government is required to permit Jews to pray at the site. In a 2015 case brought by Rabbi Yehuda Glick, now a member of the Likud party, the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court ruled that in accordance with Israel’s basic law that ensures freedom of worship for all religions, Jews must be permitted to pray on the Temple Mount. In practice, Jews who ascend to the Temple Mount are antagonized by Islamic Waqf guards who closely monitor their every move. Any action that appears worshipful results in immediate expulsion. At present, Christians too are forbidden from praying on the Temple Mount. True to the Bible’s vision of a House of Prayer for all Nations, Hayman believes “Anyone who doesn’t object to anyone else being on the Temple Mount should be allowed up there to pray”, he told Breaking Israel News.Hayman believes he has the solution. According to Jewish tradition, the Temple was destroyed due to hatred between Jews. Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount is being prevented by hatred; the political agenda determined by Muslim violence. Hayman believes the answer is an outpouring of love for the Temple Mount that brings people together in prayer.“A synagogue is the first step towards building the Third Temple”, Hayman explained. Quoting the book of Kings, he noted that the Temple was inaugurated not just as a place for sacrifices but mainly as a house of prayer. And hearken Thou to the supplication of Thy servant, and of Thy people Yisrael, when they shall pray toward this place; yea, hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling-place; and when Thou hearest, forgive. I Kings 8:30-Hayman cited the Mishna (oral law), which stated explicitly that there was a synagogue standing alongside the Temple. Hayman’s plan is to build four synagogues angled in to face the Holy of Holies. “The wall facing the Temple will be glass, so the people who can see the Temple while they are praying,” he explained.“We need to get more Jews to go up to the Temple Mount,” Hayman urged. Unfortunately, Jewish visitation is severely limited. Over the past 12 months, only 14,000 Jews were permitted to visit the Temple Mount. “Last year, over 7 million Jews visited the Kotel (Western Wall), just a few yards away. When we have thousands of Jews going up every day, Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount will just naturally begin to happen.”Surprisingly, Hayman is not a rabbi. More appropriate to his function, Hayman’s profession is developing and managing building projects. He approaches the holy endeavor like any other building project but construction on the Temple Mount poses a unique challenge.“The first stage in any building project is surveying the land and getting the map accepted by the government as accurate and valid,” Hayman explained to Breaking Israel News. “This is usually simple, almost automatic. We surveyed the Temple Mount and submitted the map three years ago. It was the first time the Temple Mount had been measured since 1967.”Upon conducting the research necessary to determine whether construction on the Temple Mount would be legal, “We discovered that the Temple Mount is not registered to anyone,” Hayman divulged to Breaking Israel News.“Nonetheless, the survey was rejected by order of the Prime Minister’s office. They didn’t want to deal with it.”Despite initial rejections, Hayman is preparing to submit the survey once again.“My hope is that due to current events and slightly different leadership in the upper levels of government that it may get through this time,” Hyman said.He explained that the UNESCO vote that granted a religious monopoly on the Temple Mount to the Muslims opened the door to last Friday’s UN Security Council vote that granted Judea, Samaria, and East Jerusalem to the Palestinians.“If you don’t have sovereignty in your own holiest place, how can you demand sovereignty anywhere else?” Hayman asked rhetorically. “Building a synagogue on the Temple Mount can help Israel politically…I hope the government will understand that.”In a rare show of unity in a profession trained in dialectic, rabbis from all sectors have voiced support for the construction. The seeds of the project were planted when Rabbi Shlomo Goren, the IDF’s Chief Rabbi, stood at the Kotel moments after it had been liberated from Jordan. Rabbi Goren organized several prayer sessions on the Temple Mount complete with Torah scrolls, but the government put a stop to them before he could see it through.Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, former Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel, called for the construction of a synagogue on the Temple Mount and now, his son, Safed’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, is working toward that goal as the president of Yishai.Chief Rabbi David Lau, generally considered to be moderate, stunned many last June when, in an interview on the televised Knesset Channel, he called for the construction of the Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount.“There’s room for Jews, there’s room for Christians, there’s room for everybody,” Rabbi Lau said to a shocked audience.

Jewish Woman’s Emotional Retelling of Her Vision of the Three Final Hours Before Messiah-By Dr. Rivkah Lambert Adler December 26, 2016 , 11:30 am-breakingisraelnews
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UliPnDU7qJk&feature=youtu.be

“O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the covert of the cliff, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.’” (Song of Songs 2:14)-Earlier this month, an Israeli organization with a mission to connect Israeli Jews to God, released a dramatic video, purporting to describe what will happen in the final three hours before the arrival of the Messiah and the construction of the Third Temple. The 30-minute video is narrated by a 31 year-old Haredi (fervently Orthodox Jewish) woman named Caroline who explained that, “I experienced a sort of out of body experience.”In emotional Hebrew, the tone of which can be understood behind the English subtitles, Caroline related how, on several occasions while struggling with postpartum depression, she experienced the presence of an unseen entity in her home which she called “something creepy”. After a particularly stressful week, she experienced a dream or a vision or an out of body experience. She didn’t know quite what to call it.The vision opened with a chariot, much like the one in Ezekiel 1. Through much of the narration, Caroline had trouble finding words to describe what she experienced because her experience transcended normal life. She described herself as being in “another world”.At this stage, the video becomes quite disturbing. She described crowds of people in some kind of transparent hall, getting “terrible beatings, they are getting tremendous whippings, afflictions. Impossible!”There is a fairly long personal narrative during which she tells how her soul was judged and the tremendous, burning shame she felt. Approximately 18 and a half minutes in, she mentions a prophecy about the imminent arrival of the Messiah. Then Caroline shared another, more universal, dream-like vision she had a few weeks later. In it, she saw a worldwide tsunami, everywhere except for the Land of Israel. The narrative of the destruction brought on by the tsunami is illustrated with clips from science fiction, horror and action films, adding powerful images to her chilling descriptions.Within Israel, she described people running and running, while thousands of rockets and scuds passed overhead and “sirens and indescribable chaos”. In extremely violent and unsettling visions, she saw ISIS at work, beheading, stabbing and slaughtering people. Then she heard a voice tell her, “This will be 3 hours before the arrival of Moshiach (Messiah).”Shortly after, her vision turned to the spiritual building of the Third Temple. She related being aware of the Shechina (Divine Presence), which was so strong, people had to turn away because, “It is impossible to gaze at the Divine Presence, but we could surely feel it. Such radiance!”Caroline heard a voice from Heaven declare, “Nation of Israel the time for your redemption has arrived!” She summarized her vision of the final three hours and the beginning of redemption by saying, “And this was the most beautiful experience of my life.”Breaking Israel News asked prolific author and end of days expert Rabbi Pinchas Winston about the likelihood that the scenario described in the video was possible, based on Jewish sources. He called the presentation “riveting” and said it was “hard NOT to watch. It is the best I have seen so far.”Without confirming that the events of the video are prophetic or will definitely happen, he told Breaking Israel News, “Everything she said could be 100 percent true. There are prophecies like that.”Rabbi Winston suggested that, rather than dismiss the video out of skepticism, people should “Live like it could be true, because it is based upon ideas and principles that we know are true. Whether she really had all this vision is irrelevant in the end… its message is a good warning.”The name of the organization that produced the film is B’hagvei HaSela. Their name comes from a Biblical verse in Song of Songs and means “in the clefts of the rock”.O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the covert of the cliff, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.’ (Song of Songs 2:14)

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

“Arise, O Hashem, let not man prevail; let the nations be judged in Thy sight.” Psalms 9:20 (The Israel Bible™)-The incoming Donald Trump administration’s stated intention to move America’s Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem has been met with Palestinian opposition so vehement that one commentator describes the reaction as “making it look as if World War III will erupt.” But experts explain that such Palestinian threats are common, and that the proposed embassy move isn’t the massive policy change that it’s being made out to be.Moving the embassy to Jerusalem would mark both a shift in longstanding U.S. policy and recognition of Israel’s full sovereignty in its contested capital. President-elect Trump has also drawn impassioned reactions to his appointment of a pro-settlement ambassador to Israel, his close friend and adviser David Friedman, a bankruptcy attorney.Friedman, who speaks Hebrew fluently, recently served as president of the American Friends of Beit El, helping to raise millions of dollars for the large Beit El settlement in Samaria—including a $10,000 donation in 2003 from Donald Trump.Upon being named ambassador, Friedman said he intended to “strengthen the bond between our two countries and advance the cause of peace within the region,” adding that he looked forward “to doing this from the U.S. embassy in Israel’s eternal capital, Jerusalem.”Calls for the embassy move have been heralded within Israel by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others, including Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.“The United States of America has embassies in all of the world’s capitals with the exception of Israel,” Barkat said. “That’s absurd, and moving the embassy to the capital of the Jewish people, to Jerusalem, is a straightforward, standard thing to do.”Yet the move has been panned by the Palestinian Authority, which has insisted—along with many sympathetic members of the international community—that Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is an issue that should be reserved for final-status negotiations to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Longtime Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat recently warned that moving the embassy could effectively “destroy the peace process,” and threatened that the move would send the region into a “path of chaos, lawlessness and extremism.”Erekat also stated that “the issues for negotiations” within the peace process are “Jerusalem, borders, settlements, the regime, security,” adding that “no one should preempt or prejudge, because this will be a destruction of the peace process as a whole.”-Recognizing Israel’s capital-Typically, any country’s foreign embassies are located in the capital city of a country. Despite the fact that Israel set up its capital in Jerusalem with the founding of its modern state in 1948, many nations, including the U.S., have established their embassies in Tel Aviv as part of a refusal to recognize Israel’s annexation of eastern sections of Jerusalem and the unification of the city following the Jewish state’s victory in the 1967 Six-Day War. Jordan controlled eastern Jerusalem from 1948-1967.Israel has been pressing nations for decades to move their embassies to Jerusalem. In 1995, Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act, calling for the U.S. embassy to be officially moved by 1999. But the measure included a provision in which the president could postpone the move every six months by executive order “to protect the national security interests of the United States.” Since the act’s passage, Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama have each continuously exercised this provision, with Obama signing the most recent six-month waiver in November. If Trump wishes to move the embassy, all he would need to do is not sign the upcoming waiver, according to U.S. law. As such, Trump and Friedman’s resolve to move the embassy in the face of Palestinian threats may represent a litmus test for an incoming administration that has been openly challenging the current nature of U.S. diplomacy toward Israel.Palestinians protect status quo-Israeli-Arab journalist Khaled Abu Toameh, a well-known reporter on Palestinian affairs, said that Palestinian Authority officials are “making it look as if World War III will erupt if the embassy is moved.”“They want the status quo to continue,” Abu Toameh told JNS.org. “They are opposed to any real changes on the ground. And they are now trying to rally the entire Arab world behind them.”According to Lenny Ben David—the former deputy chief of mission at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., and a former director of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s Israel Office—the Palestinians want to keep Jerusalem within “the realm of territorial dispute.”Moving the embassy, he said, “is something that the Israelis have wanted for years, and is something that the Palestinians have prevented for decades.”“Much of Palestinian opposition to moving the embassy is the myth that this is a monumental policy change,” Ben David, currently the director of communications for the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs think tank, told JNS.org. “The myth is that moving the embassy will cut off any possibility for American representation to the Palestinians.”-‘Reality check’-At the same time, Ben David explained that moving the embassy represents “a reality check.”“Call it waking up and just seeing what’s on the ground,” Ben David added. “Israel is in west Jerusalem. The Israeli government is in west Jerusalem. So at the very least, America should set up its embassy in west Jerusalem.”If the U.S. moves the embassy, Ben David cautioned that the event does not need to be blown out of proportion, and that it “should be done gradually, bureaucratically.” The U.S. already runs a consulate in Jerusalem—a large modern facility built to handle many of the functions of an embassy—and as such, the embassy move could take place quickly and relatively quietly. “You can just change the name on the door” from consulate to embassy, Ben David noted. The move could begin, he said, with American cables to the new ambassador being sent to Jerusalem, Israel, rather than to Tel Aviv.“Yet, if I were writing American or Israeli policy, I would not make this a major event with pomp and circumstance,” Ben David said.Abu Toameh, a senior distinguished fellow for the Gatestone Institute think tank, said that “Palestinians on the street will not be affected by any decision to move the embassy, and they are not complaining. Why should Palestinians be concerned if the embassy moves to Jerusalem? It is only Palestinian officials that are making this an issue.”-Falling for Palestinian threats-“For years, Palestinians have run to the international community with threats in order to get what they want,” Abu Toameh said. “Palestinians are used to the international community complying with all of their demands.”In the past, he said, Palestinians have vowed “that if Jews started going up on the Temple Mount, that World War III would erupt. And it didn’t. This is just another threat.”“The question is whether the Trump administration will succumb to the threat,” Abu Toameh said.
